An adviser to the Yemeni president escaped an assassination attempt in the capital Sanaa, the government said in a statement on Sunday.
"The government strongly condemns the heinous assassination attempt that targeted Yassin Saeed Noman on Saturday morning when gunmen fired at his car while he was driving in Sanaa," said the statement carried by official Saba news agency.
Noman is also the general secretary of the Socialist Party and vice president of the National Dialogue Conference.
"Targeting this well-known national political figure is targeting the transitional political process in Yemen, and an attempt to prevent the success of the ongoing national dialogue," the statement said.
An investigation has been launched into the incident to track down the criminals and brought them to justice, it added.
A picture circulated in local media showed Noman's car was shot in the roof. Police said the bullet did not penetrate the roof as the car is armored.
Earlier on Sunday, gunmen shot dead the chief of the security operation room in the Republican Palace in the southern province of Taiz.
The assassination came after Thursday's attack on the defense ministry compound that left 56 people dead and over 200 others injured, for which al-Qaida group claimed responsibility.
Hit-and-run attacks have become common in Yemen, where a popular uprising in 2011 weakened the control of the government. The impoverished Arab country is now in a transitional period after a year of mass protests that removed former President Ali Abdullah Saleh from power in 2012.
